Bayer Leverkusen will host Atletico Madrid in a Group B match of the Champions League at Bay Arena on Tuesday night. The hosts suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Club Brugge in their first match of the competition last Wednesday, while Atletico beat Porto 2-1 in their opening match of the competition on the same day. The Spanish outfit carried their winning momentum to the domestic circuit, as they thrashed Celta Vigo 4-1 last Saturday, while Leverkusen played out a 2-2 draw at Hertha Berlin in a Bundesliga match on the same day.Â

Bayer Leverkusen were beaten by Club Brugge courtesy of Loubadhe Sylla’s lone goal in the 42nd-minute. The German outfit have also made a poor start to their Bundeslag campaign, picking up just four points from six matches , which has left them down in 17th position in the table. In their last match at Hertha Berlin, goals from Kerem Demirbay and Patrick Schik helped the Eternal Bridesmaids earn a point away from home.Â
Atletico, on the other hand, secured a comprehensive victory in their last match against Celta Vigo. Angel Correa, Rodrigo de Paul and Yannick Carrasco netted one goal each before Unal Nunez’ own goal completed the drubbing for Diego Simeone’s side. It was Atletico’s third La Liga win of the campaign in five games. Prior to that, the Spanish outfit secured a dramatic victory against Porto in the Champions League, courtesy of stoppage-time goals from Mario Hermoso and Antonio Griezmann.
Leverkusen players Karim Bellarabi, Andrey Lunev, Amine Adli and Florian Wirtz are sidelined with injuries. Schik would continue to lead the line with Frimpong, Diaby and Hudson-Odoi in support. As for Atletico Madrid, defender Stefan Savic and Sergio Reguilon are nursing injuries, while Jose Gimenez and Jan Oblak are doubtful for Tuesday’s game. Alvaro Morata is expected to partner Joao Felix up front with Koke and De Paul pulling the strings in the midfield.
