Barcelona will host Manchester City in a friendly at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night. The two heavyweights of European club football will be facing each other to raise funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research after ex-Barca goalkeeper Juan Carlos Unzue, who previously worked under current City boss Pep Guardiola was diagnosed with the disease. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad in a La Liga fixture last weekend, while Premier League outfit Man City were held to a 3-3 draw by Newcastle United.

Barca didn’t make a great start to their 2022-23 La Liga campaign, playing out a goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano on August 13. But then, a week later, Blaugrana pulled their socks up to score four times against Real Sociedad last Sunday. Robert Lewandowski netted a brace, while Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati scored one goal each to secure the three points. Manchester City, on the other hand, began their Premier League title-defence with two consecutive victories against West Ham (2-0) and Bournemouth (4-0) before sharing the spoils against the Magpies last Saturday. Ilkay Gundogan, Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva netted for the Cityzens at St. James’ Park.
Barca boss Xavi is likely to rotate his squad. Braithwait, Dembele and Ferra Torres could form the front-three. Miralem Pjanic could join Franck Kessie and Gavi in the midfield. As for Man City, Alvarez is expected to lead the line with Mahrez and Foden in support. Palmer, Jack Grealish and Phillips are likely to form the midfield-trio.
Barcelona probable starting lineup: Pena, Roberto, Garcia, Pique, Alba, Kessie, Gavi, Pjanic, Torres, Dembele, Braithwaite
Manchester City starting lineup: Ortega, Gomez, Stones, Dias, Lewis, Palmer, Phillips, Grealish, Foden, Alvarez, Mahrez
The Champions League qualifier between Barcelona and Manchester City will take place at Camp Nou on Thursday at 1:00 am IST.
