Barcelona will be looking to bounce back from their Copa del Rey-exit to Real Madrid in the mid-week when they resume their La Liga campaign with a home-match against Girona at Camp Nou on Monday night. Blaugrana suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Real Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final tie on Wednesday night, while Girona are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 win against Espanyol last weekend. As of now, Barca are comfortably sitting at the summit of the Spanish top flight standings, having collected 71 points from 27 games, 12 clear of second-placed Los Blancos, who have played an extra match. The visitors, meanwhile, are occupying 11th position in the table, with 34 points to their name, seven away from the relegation zone.

Barcelona are in pole position win the La Liga title this term, having recorded an impressive 23 wins, two defeats and two draws from 27 league-games this term so far. Blaugrana’s last league-win came against rock-bottom side Elche (4-0) last weekend, thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s brace and one goal each from Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres. The result extended Xavi’s side’s winning streak in the top flight to four matches. However, Blaugrana got thrashed by arch rivals Real Madrid in their Copa del Rey clash on Wednesday , courtesy of Vinicius Junior’s opener and Karim Benzema’s second-half hat-trick. The result meant that the Catalan outfit exited the Cup competition with a 4-1 aggregate loss. Meanwhile, Barca’s home-record in the league this season has been brilliant, having not tasted defeat in 13 games at Camp Nou, while winning 11 of those and collecting 35 points.
Girona, on the other hand, have struggled away-from-home in the top flight this term, winning just two of their 13 matches on the road so far. The Red and Whites have won nine league-games this campaign and the latest of those victories came against Espanyol last weekend, courtesy of goals from Amau Martinez and Christian Stuani. Girona returned to the La Liga through last season’s Segunda Division playoffs, so any position higher than 18th would be considered a successful campaign.
