Santi Mina shattered Barcelona’s hopes of winning the La Liga title. Santi Mina Celta Vigo pushed Messi and co to a 2-1 defeat at the Nou Camp. Lionel Messi did enough to keep Barca just two points away from Atletico Madrid for a short while. Atletico Madrid defeated Osasuna 2-1. However, Santi’s brace created a gap that was just a little too tough for Ronald Koeman’s men.
Furthermore, Real Madrid’s triumph at Athletic Bilbao ensures they are the only challengers to Atletico. Barca is yet to play the fourth-placed Sevilla, who are two points behind. Barca looked very ‘in form’ after Antoine Griezmann almost scored a goal in the early minutes of the game. He smashed Messi’s pass against Ivan Villar.
In the 28th minute Messi, hit his 30th league goal of the season. He took a header shot of Sergio Busquets’ cross from deep on the left side from Villar.
The hosts’ lead lasted only 10 minutes. Santi capitalised on Iago Aspas’ assist to hit the goal from outside the box with what was Celta’s first of the two goals.
Barca were biting their nails when teenage midfielder Ilaix Moriba made an effort to make the ball into the goal. It was the 54th minute, only to watch it sail over the bar.
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen stopped Celta turning the game on its head by diving to keep out Denis Suarez’s superb low drive towards the bottom left corner, and with the final 15 minutes approaching, Barca suddenly looked troubled.
Messi and substitute Martin Braithwaite both took aim without success for the hosts. It was not to be their night– or their year. Just before full-time, Santi arrowed home a shock winner from 18 yards out. It was probably one of those matches that kept the audience on the edge of their seats.
