Serbia will take on Austria in a European U-19 championship Group B fixture at Stadion SNP Stiavnicky on Saturday. Serbia needs a victory to stand any chance of qualifying for semi-finals of the competition, while the Austrians have already been eliminated. Both sides are heading into the tie on the back of defeats. The Serbs were thrashed 4-0 by England last Wednesday, while Austria lost 4-2 against Israel on the same day. After playing two games each, Serbia sit at the third spot in the group with one point while Austria are rock bottom, waiting to open their account. Meanwhile the tournament features eight teams competing for the title and they are separated into two groups of four. The top two teams from each group not only qualify for the semi-finals but also secure a place in the finals of 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in Indonesia.

In the mid-week, the Serbs had no answer to England’s ruthless and clinical football. Dane Scarlett scored a first-half brace before Carney Chukwuemeka tripled the lead mid-way through the second half and Daniel Jebbison completed the drubbing with a fourth goal in the injury time. Aleksandar Jovic’s side made a decent start to the tournament coming from behind to earn a thrilling 2-2 draw against Israel. Serbia are still in with a slim chance of going through to the knockout stage by prolonging the agony of Austria.

Austria on the other hand, began the competition with a disappointing 2-0 loss to mighty England before losing to Israel. Goals from Adis Jasic and Yusug Demir weren’t enough due to some poor defending. Israel found the back of the net four times through Tai Abed, Ariel Lugasi, Ilay Madmon and Oscar Gloch. Austria head coach Martin Scherb is likely to rotate his squad for the Saturday match inorder to give some game time to the players who haven’t got on the pitch so far.

Probable Lineups

Serbia boss Jovic is unlikely to make too many changes to the side that started against the Three Lions. Marko Lazetic will lead the attack with Ajdar and Miladinovic in support. Miletic, Petkovic and Knezevic could form the midfield trio. Austria, on the other hand, could make a number of changes this weekend. Jakob Knollmuller could start up front in place of Dominik Weixelbraun. Demir would play behind the striker and provide the creative spark with Mischitz and Kanuric occupying the flanks.

Austria U-19 probable starting lineup: Scherf; Querfeld, Wallner, Fallmann; Mischitz, Kanuric, Jasic, Omic, Kanuric; Demir, Knollmuller.

Serbia U-19 probable starting lineup: Lukic; Lazic, Lekovic, Ilicic, Krsmanovic; Miletic, Petkovic, Knezevic; Miladinovic, Lazetic, Ajdar.
