Australia will take on Jordan in an international friendly at the Al Janoub Stadium on Wednesday. It will be the Socceroos’ final preparation match before the crucial World Cup Qualifier against UAE next week. Graham Arnold’s side has been inconsistent recently and will be heading into the match off the back of two consecutive losses, while Jordan beat India 2-0 in the previous match in Doha on Saturday.  The Chivalrous head into the game at Al Wakrah looking for a confidence boost ahead of their AFC Cup third qualifiers later this month. Both sides will want to build momentum ahead of their more important fixtures next week and that should make for an interesting matchup.

The Socceroos didn’t have a great third round of World Cup Qualifiers, registering just five wins from 10 games. Meanwhile one win from their last seven games, saw them finish third in their group.  Despite not living up to expectations, the Socceroos would still have high hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. Arnold has plenty of cause for concern, particularly with his team failing to score against either Japan or Saudi Arabia in their recent games. Nevertheless a friendly with a lower ranked side like Jordan is theoretically a perfect preparation for games against UAE and potentially Peru as they bid to join the World’s elite in Qatar.

As for Jordan, they have won their last two friendlies against New Zealand and India. Ali Olwan netted a brace and Musa Al-Tamari scored once as Adnan Hamad’s side secured a 3-1 win against the All Whites. And then, goals from Abu Amarah and Abu Zrayq helped Jordan beat India 2-0. Hamad has guided his team to nine wins in 13 games so far. After the Australia friendly, the Chivalrous will head to Kuwait for the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Jordan will take on Nepal on June 9 before facing Indonesia and Kuwait in the space of next five days.

Probable Lineups

Australia will be without Harry Scouttar as the defender suffered an ACL injury during the 2021-22 season. The trio of Mathew Leckie, Jamie Maclaren and Marco Tilio will likely start this game on the substitutes bench. Tom Rogic and Aaron Mooy could start in the midfield. As for Jordan, Hamad is likely to start with the same eleven from the game against India. Meanwhile Amarah and Zrayg could push for a place in the playing eleven.

Australia possible starting lineup: Ryan, Atkinson, Stensness, Sainsbury, Behich, Boyle, Rogic, Mooy, Mabil, Hrustic, Duke.

Jordan possible starting lineup: Abulaila, Al-Arab, Khattab, Abu Hasheesh, Haddad, Abdulrahman, Al-Rawabdeh, Al Dardour, Al-Mardi, Al-Tamari, Olwan.
