Bayer Leverkusen will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga when they travel to WWK Arena to take on Augsburg on Friday night. The visitors saw their five game winning streak come to an end after losing 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund last weekend. Meanwhile Augsburg suffered a 3-1 defeat to SC Freiburg, last Saturday. As of now, Augsburg are languishing at the 14th spot in the German top flight standings, having collected 18 points from as many games, just two points clear of the drop zone, while the visitors are sitting at the ninth position, with 24 points to their name.

Augsburg have lost two of their last three league-games after the World Cup break. Fuggerstadter resumed their season with a 4-3 defeat to Dortmund, before edging past Borussia Monchengladbach through Mergim Berisha’s lone goal. It was their 5th league-win of the season. And then, Enrico Maassen’s side lost to SC Freiburg despite the fact that Berisha scored from the penalty spot on the half-hour mark. 

Leverkusen, on the other hand, lost to Dortmund in their last outing, courtesy of Karim Adeyemi’s 33rd-minute strike and Edmond Tapsoba’s own goal, eight minutes into the second half. Although Xabi Alonso’s side dominated the proceeding, recording 21 shots, with six of them on target, BVB managed to take all three points. However, the Spanish tactician won’t be too worried as his team have shown great character off late, winning five consecutive games, scoring 14 goals and conceding just five during that impressive run. The Eternal Bridesmaids are sitting eight points adrift of Eintracht Frankfurt, who are occupying the sixth and final European qualification spot.

The latest meeting between these two sides was more than five months ago, which ended 2-1 in favour of Augsburg. Fredrik Jensen’s 15th-minute opener was canceled out by Charles Aranguiz, two minutes before the break. After the interval, Andre Hahn restored  Fuggerstadter’s lead eight minutes from time. Augsburg managed to hold on to the slender lead and secured all three points. It was Augsburg’s first ever victory over Leverkusen in 25 attempts. Meanwhile, the Eternal Bridesmaids have recorded 17 wins.
