Athletic Bilbao are the second-most successful club in the history of Copa del Rey, having won the tournament 23 times, while they have finished runner-ups on 16 occasions. This time around, the Basque outfit overcame the likes of Alzira, Sestao, Eldense, Espanyol and Valencia in the previous rounds to each the last four of the competition. Meanwhile Ernesto Valverde’s side are going through bit of a round patch, winning just one of their last seven matches across all competitions, while losing four of those games. As of now, the Lions are occupying seven spot in the Spanish top flight standings with 37 points to their name from 27 games, 11 points adrift of the top four.
Osasuna, on the other hand, have never won the Copa del Rey, and their previous best performance came way back in 20025 when they finished runner-ups, after losing the final 2-1 against Real Madrid. Since the first-leg win over Athletic, Los Rojillos are winless in their next four outings in the league, losing two games in that period. Jagoba Arrasate’s side are currently sitting at the ninth position in the La Liga Santander, having collected 35 points from 27 matches. Meanwhile, Osasuna’s last triumph at San Mames came in the league back in 2020 courtesy of Oier Sanjurjo’s lone goal in the first half.
