Arsenal will host FC Zurich in a UEFA Europa League fixture at Emirates Stadium on Thursday night, aiming to seal top spot in Group A. The Gunners are currently occupying top spot in Group A, despite going down 2-0 to PSV Eindhoven last week. Mikel Arteta’s side have collected 12 points from their five games thus far, two points clear of second-placed PSV. FC Zurich, meanwhile, are languishing at the bottom of the table, with just three pints to their name. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a thumping 5-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in a Premier League match on Sunday, while Zurich secured a narrow 1-0 win over Sion in a Swiss Super League game, on the same day.

Arsenal’s defeat to PSV last week was their first in the Europa League this term. Joey Veerman and Luuk de Jong struck in the second half to ensure that the fight for first place would come down to the final matchday. Meanwhile, Arteta’s side were quick to get back to winning ways as they put five goals past Forest without reply in a league fixture on Sunday. Reiss Nelson netted a brace, while Gabriel Martinelli, Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard scored one goal each for the Gunners to secure all three points. The result helped Arsenal to move to 31 points from 12 games, at the summit of the Premier League standings.

FC Zurich, on the other hand, are languishing at the bottom of the Swiss Super League standings. FCZ’s victory over Sion last week was their first in the league this term. Jonathan Okita’s lone goal inside the opening eight minutes separated the two sides at Stade Tourbillon. Meanwhile, in the Europa League, the Swiss outfit still have something to play for, having defeated Bodo/Glimt 2-1 last week to keep their hopes of a third-place finish alive.
