Arsenal will be aiming to maintain their perfect start to the 2022-23 Premier League season when they host Aston Villa at the Emirates stadium on Wednesday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Fulham last Saturday, while Aston Villa suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to West Ham United, a day later. The Gunners are currently occupying top spot in the standings with 12 points from four games, while the visitors are sitting at the 16th spot with just three points.

Arsenal have been in stunning form since the start of the season, scoring 11 goals and conceding just three in their four games so far. The gunners were far from impressive in their recent outing against Fulham, but managed to grind out a victory courtesy of Martin Odegaard’s equaliser and Gabriel Magalhaes’ winner four minutes from time. Prior to that, Mikel Arteta’s side got the better of Bournemouth (3-0), Leicester City (4-2) and Crystal Palace (2-0). After the game against Villa, Arsenal will travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United this weekend.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, have lost three of their opening four league games so far. Steven Gerrard’s side recorded their only league victory against Everton (2-1) on August 13, courtesy of goals from Danny Ings and Emi Buendia. But the Lions couldn’t keep that momentum going and lost the next two league matches against Crystal Palace (3-1) and West Ham. In their last outing against the Hammers, Pablo Fornals’ 74th-minute goal separated the two sides at Villa Park.

Arsenal players Oleksandr Zinchenko and Thomas Partey are doubtful for Wednesday’s game because of injuries. Head coach Arteta is unlikely to make too many alterations to the winning formula, but the Spaniard would be keeping one eye on the weekend fixture against the Red Devils. Gabriel Jesus, who has netted two times and registered four assists, is likely to lead the line with Martinelli, Saka and Odegaard in support. As for Aston Villa, defender Diego Carlos is sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury. Bailey, Watkins and Coutinho could form the front-three.
Arsenal probable starting lineup: Ramsdale, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney, Xhaka, Lokonga, Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli, Jesus
Aston Villa probable starting lineup: Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne, McGinn, Kamara, Ramsey, Bailey, Watkins, Coutinho
