Apollon Limassol will host Olympiacos in the first leg of the Europa League qualifying playoff at Tsirion Athlitiko Kentro on Thursday. The winner of the two-legged tie will enter the group stage of Europe’s second tier club football competition. The hosts are heading into the match on a back of title triumph, defeating Omonia 2-0 in the final of the Cypriot super cup last Friday. Olympiacos, meanwhile, had to go through a hard-fought two-legged tie against Slovan Bratislava in the previous round of the qualifier.

Apollon FC won the Cypriot Super cup courtesy of goals from Bagaliy Dabo and Andreas Filotis. Prior to that, the cyprus outfit were dumped out of the champions League qualifiers by Maccabi Haifa. Apollo lost the first leg of the tie 4-0 at Sammy Ofer stadium. And then, in the home leg, Apollon displayed great fighting spirit to secure a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Hervin Ongenda and Israel Coll, but it wasn’t enough and the Cyprus outfit lost 4-2 on aggregate.

Olympiacos, on the other hand, had gotten the better of Slovan Bratislava on penalties in the previous round. Their first leg against the Slovak outfit had ended 1-1. And then, in the away leg at Tehelne Pole, Olympiacos netted twice through Philip Zinckernagal and Aguibou Camara to make the score 2-2 and the match went to penalties. The Greek outfit prevailed 4-3 winners on penalties.

Probable Lineups

Apollon FC midfielder Ilian Iliev is sidelined with an injury, while veteran forward Nicolos Diguiny is doubtful for Thursday’s match. Janga is expected to lead the line with Va and Pittas occupying the flanks. As for Olympiacos, Garry Rodrigues is unavailable due to injury, while defender Sime Vrsaljko is also nursing an injury. El-arabi is likely to lead the line with Zinckernagel and Randelovic in support.
