Algeria got the better of Guinea on Friday courtesy of Islam Slimani’s lone goal eleven minutes from time. It was the Greens’ fourth consecutive victory across all competitions since losing 2-1 to Cameroon in the second leg of World Cup qualification back in March. The third round tie of qualification finished 2-2 on aggregate but the Indomitable Lions secured a place in the group stages of the global event on away goals. Meanwhile the Fennec Foxes have made a strong start to their 2023 AFCON qualifying, registering consecutive wins against Uganda and Tanzania with a 2-0 scoreline.
Nigeria’s third round tie of the World Cup qualification against Ghana finished 1-1 on aggregate, but the Black Stars went through on away goals. After the heartbreak of World Cup qualifying, the Super Eagles suffered back-to-back defeats against Mexico (2-1) and Ecuador (1-0) in friendlies, before getting their acts together to get the better of Sierra Leone (2-1) and putting ten goals past Sao Tome Prince without reply in the group stage of 2023 AFCON qualifying.
Algeria defender Abdelkader Bedrane was forced off injured against Guinea and is unlikely to feature on Tuesday. Therefore Aissa Mani is expected to partner Bensebaini at the heart of the defence. Everton-man Alex Iwobi has been in superb form for the Premier League outfit and is likely to occupy the right flank. Leicester City’s Iheanacho might partner Dessers and Moffi in the attack.
Algeria probable starting lineup: Zeghba, Benayada, Benesebaini, Mandi, Tougai, Zerrouki, Bentaleb, Bennacer, Mahrez, Slimani, Ounas
Nigeria probable starting lineup: Okoye, Alina, Troost-Ekong, Balogun, Bassey, Iwobi, Onyeka, Onyedika, Iheanacho, Desserts, Moffi
