Algeria got the better of Syria on Sunday courtesy of Djamel Belmadi’s lone goal 20 minutes from time. It was a tough game for the North African outfit as the Syrian’s showed great fighting spirit till the final whistle. The result helped the Desert Warriors to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games. After one more friendly against Sweden next week, the Fennec Foxes will begin their African Nations Championship campaign against Libya in January. Mali, on the other hand, since losing out to Tunisia in the third round of World Cup qualification playoff, have been near perfect even since and will be looking to continue in the same vein. Les Aigles have lost just one of their last eight outings.
Algeria boss Dhamel Belmadi has named a strong 24-man squad for the two friendlies with the likes of Said Benrahma, Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Ismael Bennacer all making the cut. Slimani, who is the nations top goal-scorer with 34 scalps to his name, is likely to lead the line with Ounas and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez in support. Bennacer, Zerrouki and Bentaleg could form the midfield-trio. As for Mali, Crystal Palace-man Coucoure could be a key man in the midfield alongside A Haidara and Samassekou. Coulibaly, Koia and Kone might form the front-three.
Algeria probable starting lineup: M’Bolhi, Bensebaini, Mandi, Touba, Atal, Bennacer, Zerrouki, Bentaleb, Mahrez, Slimani, Ounas
Mali probable starting lineup: Diarra, Traore, Fofana, M. Haidara, Sacko, A Haidara, Samassekou, Doucoure, Coulibaly, Koita, Kone
