Alessandro Bastoni is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Serie A club Inter and the Italy national team. In his early years, Bastoni played for his father’s hometown Rivarolo Mantovano youth team in Casalmaggiore, Lombardy, where he was born. He joined the Atalanta youth team when he was 7 years old. At Bergamo, Bastoni advanced through a number of age groups, including the under-17 team, where he made close to 30 appearances. Eventually, he moved up to the Primavera team, where he established himself as a regular starter at the centre of defence. Bastoni played the full 90 minutes of his debut in a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria on January 22, 2017, after sitting out the six games after Genoa in Serie A.

Bastoni’s €31 million purchase by Inter Milan was revealed on August 31, 2017, along with his two-year loan to Atalanta. On July 14, 2018, Inter formally recalled defender Alessandro Bastoni from his loan with Atalanta early and extended his deal until 2023. Bastoni joined Parma on loan on August 7 and will remain there through June 30, 2019. On October 7, 2018, he made his league debut during a 3-1 victory away at Genoa. He has now returned to Inter Milan and has over 100 caps under his name.

From U15 through U19, Bastoni has earned every Italy cap. Coach Paolo Nicolato first selected him for the under-18 team in August 2016, and he was named captain after just two games. He earned his Italy U21 team debut in a 1-0 loss to Belgium in a friendly match in 2018.
