Albania will host Estonia in an international friendly at air Albania Stadium on Monday. It will be their final match of summer international fixtures. The hosts head into the tie on the back of a 2-1 loss to Israel, while Estonia defeated Malta 2-1 in their respective UEFA Nations League fixtures. With both nations participating in three-team groups instead of four in the 2022 Nations League campaign, both have played just two games each in the competition this year. Albania has been placed third in the League B Group 2 with just one point, while Estonia occupies top spot in League D Group 2. Meanwhile the two Eastern European nations have locked horns on three occasions before, and the hosts are undefeated , with two games ending in draws and Albania securing one win.

Albania were in action in the Nations League against Israel last Friday and suffered a 2-1 loss. At Air Albania stadium, the hosts took the lead through Armando Broja before Manor Solomon’s second half brace helped Israel take all three points and move to the summit of League B Group 2, also consisting of Iceland. For the Red and Blacks, it has been a disappointing campaign so far, having secured just one point from opening two games. The first game in Iceland ended 1-1. The visitors took the lead through Taulant Seferi before Jon thorsteinsson leveled the score for Iceland to share the spoils. Albania’s winless streak has now extended to four games. Edoardo Reja’s side have the odds stacked against them when they return to the Nations League in September.

Estonia, on the other hand, began their 2022-23 Nations League campaign with a 2-0 win over San Marino and then clinched a 2-1 win in Malta in their second game to move to the top of League D Group 2, consisting of only three teams. In between these two fixtures, Blushirts suffered a 5-0 thrashing by Argentina. Lionel Messi scored five goals to earn a five-star victory for his side at El Sadar. Meanwhile, despite seeing very little of the ball in Malta on Thursday, Thomas Haberli’s side snatched all three points at the death through Henri Anier’s goal in the fourth minute of injury time. The Blueshirts will be expected to get the job done when they return to the Nations League in September.
