In an Eredivisie top of the table clash Ajax will host PSV Eindhoven at the Amsterdam Arena on Sunday evening. Both sides were involved in European fixtures in the mid-week. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 3-1 victory over Rangers in a UEFA Champions League match on Tuesday, while PSV got the better of Bodo/Glimt 2-1 in a Europa League game two days later. Despite the comfortable victory away to Rangers on Tuesday, the Sons of Gods managed to secure only a third-place finish in Group A, and they will next compete in the Europa League playoffs. Steven Berghuis, Mohammed Kudus and Francisco Conceicao netted for Ajax at the Ibrox stadium. Meanwhile, in the domestic circuit, the Jews are looking to record a fourth consecutive Eredivisie title this year. Alfred Schreuder’s side have made a good start, dropping just five points from their opening 11 games thus far. Ajax’ last league-match against RKC Waalwijk ended in a 4-1 win, courtesy of goals from Berghuis and Brian Bobbey.
PSV, on the other hand, put three goals past NEC without reply last Sunday. Anwar El Ghazi opened the scoring before Luuk de Jong doubled the lead from the penalty spot and then, Noni Madueke’s late strike sealed the win for the Red and Whites’. After that, the Lightbulbs booked a spot in the knockout stages of the Europa League on Thursday night with a victory against Bodo/Glimt. Alfons Sampstend’s own goal put PSV ahead inside the opening 35 minutes , before John Bakayoko doubled the lead with a 52nd-minute strike.
