Ajax got the better of Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1, in their final friendly of the summer last Tuesday, while the Red and Whites got the better of Real Betis 2-1 in their recent outing.
Ajax and PSV Eindhoven will face each other in the Dutch Super Cup final at the Johan Cruyff ArenA on Saturday. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of victories. Ajax got the better of Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1, in their final friendly of the summer last Tuesday, while the Red and Whites got the better of Real Betis 2-1 in their recent outing last Saturday. Both teams will be facing each other in this competition for a second successive year following a 4-0 win for PSV in the most recent edition. The Sons of Gods won the Eredivisie last term with, while PSV finished second in the table, but they secured the KNVB Cup trophy by getting the better of Ajax 2-1 in the final last April.

Last Tuesday at Amsterdam Arena, Ajax came from behind to get the better of Shakhtar Donetsk courtesy of goals from Dusan Tadic, Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus. The Jews had an impressive pre-season, winning four of their six friendlies, while one game ended in a defeat and one in a draw. Alfred Schreuder’s side has managed to score 15 goals and conceded nine times in six friendlies. Having won all but two of their 13 matches on home turf, the hosts would be hoping to start competitive action for the new season with a positive result in front of their fans.

PSV, on the other hand, had a mixed summer so far, winning three of their six games, two of them ended in defeats and one in a draw. Legendary Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men saw the threat of Real Betis at the Philips Stadion on Sunday, courtesy of goals from Cody Gakpo and Philip Mwene. Their other two wins came against BW Lohne and FC Eindhoven.The Rood-witten are aiming to pick up the first available silverware of the new season before heading into the Champions League play-offs against Monaco on Tuesday.

Ajax’s summer signing Steven Bergwijn is set to make his competitive debut for the new club, against his former employers. The former Tottenham Hotspur-man could join Tadic and Antony up front. Maarten Stekelenburg is sidelined with an injury, therefore Remko is likely to occupy the goal with Blind and Timber in front of him at the heart of the defence. As for PSV, Luuk de Jong, who returned to the club from Barcelona as a free agent, is set to make his second debut for the Red and Whites. De Jong would be supported by Madueke and Gakpo up front. Sangare, Til and Veeramn are likely to form the midfield-trio.
