Ajax will host Napoli in a UEFA Champions League fixture at the Amsterdam Arena on Tuesday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Go Ahead Eagles in an Eredivisie fixture on Saturday. Napoli, meanwhile, beat Torino 3-1 in a Serie A match on the same day. With two wins from as many games, the Italian outfit are occupying top spot in Group A of the Champions League, while Ajax are sitting two places behind them, with three points.

Ajax began their 2022-23 Champions League campaign with a dominant 4-0 win over Rangers on September 7, before suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, six days later. Against the Reds, Mohammed Kudus canceled out Mohammed Salah’s opener, but Joel Matop’s last-ditch winner broke Ajax fans’ hearts. Meanwhile the Dutch outfit have made an impressive start to their domestic league campaign, having recorded six wins from eight games to be sitting at the second position in the standings. In their last outing against Go Ahead Eagles, Davy Klaasen put Ajax in front inside the opening 27 minutes, before Willumsson’s 78th-minute strike helped the visitors to share the spoils.

Napoli, on the other hand, have made a stunning start to their Serie A campaign, having recorded six wins and two draws from their opening eight games to be sitting at the summit of the points table, with 20 points. Last time out, the Blues beat Torino courtesy of a brace from Andre Anguissa and one goal from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Luciano Spalletti’s side also made a brilliant start to their European campaign, thrashing Liverpool 4-1 in their opening match before putting three goals past Rangers without reply in the second.

Ajax defender Ahmetcan Kaplan is sidelined with cruciate ligament injury, while full-back Jorge Sanchez is also nursing a knee problem. Kudus is expected to lead the line, with Steven Bergwijn and Tadic in support. As for Napoli, Simeone could spearhead the attack with Politano, Zielinski and Kvaratskhelia in support. Anguissa and Lobotka could partner in the engine room.
