Tottenham have 39 points from 23 games to be placed fifth in the Premier League. Meanwhile, AC Milan are also sitting fifth in Serie A with 41 points from 22 matches.
The long wait is over, as the Champions League returns with AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur playing against each other in a round-of-16 first-leg tie on Tuesday night. This contest at San Siro will make for an interesting viewing due to various reasons. Both teams are not in the best of form and they are no where near the level they displayed last season in their domestic league. Hence, these two sides would look at Champions League as a welcome distraction from their domestic woes.
Both sides are placed fifth in their respective leagues. Hence, their season has not been a total disaster, however, they would have liked to be much higher up in the table than where they are currently. AC Milan are the defending champions in Italy but their title defence already seems to be over due to their inconsistent form. Besides, Napoli’s impressive streak makes it difficult for anyone else to catch them in the title race.
Tottenham Hotspur had a terrific end to the 2021-22 Premier League campaign, which saw them secure Champions League football. they are still not far away from finishing in the top four places but its their inconsistencies that might be a concern for the Spurs’ supporters. As things stand, Tottenham have 39 points from 23 games to be placed fifth in the Premier League. Meanwhile, AC Milan are also sitting fifth in Serie A with 41 points from 22 matches.

This contest will see some key players missing out through injuries, with Tottenham Hotspur having the bulk of injury concerns. AC Milan will be without their star goalkeeper Mike Maignan, allowing Ciprian Tatarusanu to retain the spot in between the sticks. It will be interesting to see if Fikayo Tomori and Ismael Bennacer are fit enough to play some part in this match. However, it will be unlikely to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic getting involved.
Tottenham Hotspur will also miss their first-choice shot-stopper with Hugo Lloris being out injured due to a knee concern. Cristian Romero, who was suspended at the weekend, will return to action in this one. However, they received a massive blow in the form of Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury. He could very well miss the rest of the season. They will also be without the injured Yves Bissouma and the suspended Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for this game, leaving them short-handed in the middle of the park.
