The first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final clash  between AC Milan and Inter Milan ended in a goalless draw at San Siro. Milan had the best chances, particularly a Rafael Leao curler forcing a brilliant save from Inter keeper Samir Handanovic. Meanwhile a 0-0 draw is not a good result for Inter as the away goal rule does apply with the Rossoneri technically the ‘home’ team here. That means if the second leg ends in a goal draw, then Milan will go through to the final. The second leg has not been formally announced yet.

Milan started the match on the driving seat as they pressed higher up the pitch, forcing Brozovic to concede possession inside his own box, but Handanovic was quick to recover and deny Alexis Saelemaekers who latched on to the loose ball.

Theo Hernandez made a darting run down the center, played one-two with Olivier Giroud before shooting inches wide from the edge of the box. Meanwhile at the other end, Edin Dzeko had a shot charged down, while Asensio Romagnoli got a crucial header to stop Dzeko nodding in Ivan Perisic’s cross from a yard. An unmarked Rade Krunic’s effort from Saelemaekers’ assist deflected over the bar

After the break, Leao cut inside from the left and tried to curl the ball in at the far bottom corner, but was denied by Handanovic’s strong left arm and Perisic cleared the rebound. Milan played with more intensity as Alessandro Florenzi’s powerful long-ranger went straight to Handanovic.

Denzel Dumfries made a crucial interception to prevent Hernandez from getting at the end of Junior Messias’ deep inswinging cross from the right flank.

Lautaro Martinez was booked after going in a little late on a loose ball and landing on Mike Maignan’s wrist. Pierre Kalulu made a decisive interception to prevent Dzeko tapping in the Dumfries ball across the face of goal.

Messias cut inside from the right side of the box and curled wide. Joaquin Correa made his comeback after two months out with injury, while Robin Gosens made his Inter debut since joining the club in the January transfer window. Gosens was also making a comeback after recovering from a thigh injury.
