Kumar Ram Narain Karthikeyan is an Indian racing driver. He was the first Indian driver to compete in Formula One. Previously, he competed in the A1GP and the Le Mans Series. He has won races in the A1GP, British F3, Nissan World Series, AutoGP, Formula Asia, British Formula Ford, and Opel series during his single-seater career. He won the British Formula Ford Winter Series in 1994 and the Formula Asia Championship in 1996.

In addition, in 2000, he finished fourth overall in the British F3 series, and in 2003, he finished fourth overall in the World Nissan series. He made his Formula One debut in 2005 with the Jordan team and was a Williams F1 test driver in 2006 and 2007.

Karthikeyan, like a number of other former Formula One drivers, moved to stock car racing in 2010, driving the No. 60 Safe Auto Insurance Company Toyota Tundra for Wyler Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. He returned to F1 with the HRT team in 2011, stayed with them in 2012, and was set to drive for them again in 2013. The FIA’s 2013 entry list, however, did not include HRT, leaving Karthikeyan without a ride.

From 2014 to 2018, Karthikeyan competed in the Japanese Super Formula series. He finished his single-seater career in 2019 by joining Japan’s SuperGT series. The Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour, was bestowed upon him in 2010.
