If there ever was a driver on the 2022 grid who needed a good comeback story, it was British-Thai racer Alex Albon. When his Formula One career began, Albon was a driver for Red Bull Racing after being promoted from Scuderia Toro Rosso. He was recruited as a replacement for Pierre Gasly. The expectations of being in a team like Red Bull Racing will always be high but that kind of pressure on a rookie is surely unfair. Perhaps the pressure got to him during his first stint in F1 as he just could not get the results necessary. It was not like his performances were poor or even below par. The Brit was consistently finishing in the points but it was never high up enough. There was bad luck involved as well but not getting a single podium during his time at Red Bull surely hurt his chances. Albon currently is a driver for Williams and his teammate is Nicholas Latifi.

Following the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2019, Red Bull Racing announced that Albon would take over for Pierre Gasly and partner Max Verstappen at the team beginning with the Belgian Grand Prix in 2019. Albon finished seventh in the World Drivers’ Championship with 92 points in his maiden season. At the FIA Prize Giving Ceremony, he was named Rookie of the Year. In 2020, he continued to race for Red Bull with Verstappen, although he did not have the finest of seasons, finishing seventh with 105 points. In 2021, Albon was replaced by Sergio Perez at Red Bull and the Brit had to wait a whole year to find a new seat. Currently, he is a part of the Williams F1 team.

After a series of failures in his Formula One career, the Williams Racing driver has come a long way in the sport. When Mexican driver Sergio Perez was appointed in his place in 2021, he was downgraded to a Red Bull Racing reserve driver. But this season, he finally earned his big break by joining Williams Racing as a works driver. This season, his compensation is said to be approximately USD 2 million.
