The local driver was relieved to eventually recover and earn fourth on the starting grid for Sunday’s race after being without information on his dashboard, including laptimes. A DRS issue brought on by the electrical issue also caused him to finish eighth in Q1, albeit it was fixed for the succeeding sessions. He finished fifth in Q2 before moving up one spot in the final round of qualifying. He described qualifying as “a mess, a complete mess.”

“We had an electrical problem right away, but if I go back at my qualifying, I was almost eliminated in Q1, almost eliminated in Q2, I had no way to gauge my progress, and I had no lap times. “Occasionally, I struggled to locate myself using my brake balance. It was a whole disaster, but in the end, I don’t think P4 is the worst part. Nevertheless, I believe we might be much higher, said Sergio Perez.

DRS problem

When asked about his DRS issue in Q1, Perez told: “It was entirely related to the electrical issue that we experienced throughout the qualifying. “In general, I had no reference for lap timings and other things. My electricity was the only thing that didn’t return when [DRS] did. They are sure they can arrange that [for the race].” Perez said that going through such a challenging session at a local event was especially unpleasant.

Given how close we were to pole, he added, “Obviously if there’s a qualification you want to have everything flawless in, it’s this one. I think undoubtedly we would have progressed much more than what we did.” Perez did admit, though, that he could be able to grab a lead on the opening lap by using the customary Mexico City tow off the starting line. I believe there are many things we can do for tomorrow, therefore we’ll do everything we can to make it happen.
