Oscar Piastri’s Formula One ambition may come true sooner than imagined, with another driver’s days seemingly numbered after a spate of dismal finishes. Last year, the Australian created a name for himself by winning the F2 title on his maiden try, his third series victory in as many seasons. Despite this, due to a scarcity of seats, he was passed over for a position in the premier series. After dismissing Nikita Mazepin in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Haas found themselves with a late vacancy, but they chose to rehire the veteran Kevin Magnussen.

Alfa Romeo was the sole team to recruit a rookie, opting for Zhou Guanyu, no doubt aided by the fact that he is the first Chinese driver in Formula One and the economic benefits that would bring. Instead, Piastri has been working as a development driver at Alpine and waiting to replace either Esteban Ocon or Fernando Alonso if they were forced to skip a race weekend for whatever reason. While this has not yet occurred, it appears that his F1 bow may be made in a completely different manner.

Struggling Latifi

Williams is rumored to be losing patience with struggling Nicholas Latifi, so it might come sooner than expected. The Canadian is one of just two drivers who have failed to score a point this season, and he has been involved in many major crashes that have cost the organization a lot of money in repair expenses. Latifi is battling with both form and confidence, and he may find himself out of a seat if his career does not improve immediately.

Williams could pull the trigger

There is a strong whisper in the paddock, according to veteran driver Tom Coronel, that Williams may pull the trigger in the midst of the season. If they do, Piastri is apparently considered as a ready-made substitute who can step in on short notice and seize his F1 moment. “We will, of course, see the Alpine reserve driver Oscar Piastri drive there, that seems to have already been signed in Monaco. I don’t know when they’re going to come out with it. That’s a strong rumor.” revealed Coronel claiming that a deal has already been struck to take the Australian on loan.
