Lewis Hamilton is a British racing driver who was born on January 7, 1985, in Stevenage, England. He is the most successful driver in history, having won more races than anybody else and finishing as World Champion seven times. Lewis Hamilton began his Formula One career in 2007 with McLaren, where he was paired with two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso. It was evident that Hamilton was unique after defeating the Spaniard in his debut season. After a very insane 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix, he would go on to win his first World Championship the following year. From then, McLaren struggled to provide Hamilton with a car capable of bringing him his second championship, but things would soon change.

Hamilton joined the Mercedes team in 2013, which was a surprise move at the time. Far from being the dominant force they are now, Hamilton stepped into the seat vacated by seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher, and was tasked with bringing the Silver Arrows up the standings alongside Nico Rosberg. And he would, as 2014 marked the start of the turbo-hybrid era, as well as Mercedes’ supremacy in Formula One, with Hamilton being a seven-time champion and Mercedes holding a record seven Drivers’ titles and eight Constructors’ titles. Hamilton has numerous Formula One records, including the most career points, Grand Prix victories, pole positions, and points in a single season.

Lewis Hamilton Before F1

After starting his karting career at the age of eight, Lewis Hamilton was signed to McLaren’s young driver programme at the age of thirteen. Hamilton’s first taste of open-wheel racing came in 2001, when he joined Manor Motorsport, a British racing team that he spent four seasons with, mostly in the Formula Renault championship. His first trophy with the squad came in 2003, when he won 10 out of 15 races to win the Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship. In 2005 and 2006, Hamilton would have even greater success. First, he annihilated the competition in the Formula 3 Euro Series, claiming 15 victories, 13 pole positions, and 17 podium places in just 20 races to claim the title with ASM Formula 3.

He then seamlessly transitioned to GP2 racing with ART, taking up five victories to beat off another soon-to-be Formula 1 driver, Adrian Sutil, for the GP2 championship title. Still on McLaren’s books, Hamilton made the final step to Formula One when the Woking team named him and Fernando Alonso as its 2007 driver line-up following the departures of Juan Pablo Montoya and Fernando Alonso.

Lewis Hamilton was somewhat of an unknown when he was called up to race for McLaren in 2007, and the reigning GP2 champion certainly didn’t have it easy with Fernando Alonso as his team-mate. Hamilton went on to set several records as he finished runner-up in the 2007 World Drivers’ Championship to Kimi Räikkönen by one point, including those for the most consecutive podium finishes from debut, the joint most wins in a debut season and the most points in a debut season.

When he started racing he was eight, the number plate on my dad’s car (red Cavalier) was F44. So he used 44. It was his idea. And then it became the family lucky number.
