After its problems in 2022, Charles Leclerc predicts that Mercedes will return to the Formula 1 title race with a "very powerful car" the following year.

Mercedes failed to understand the new technical requirements, which resulted to the loss of its eight-year winning streak in the constructors’ championship. Prior to more serious issues with the W13 car emerging early in the season, the team’s preseason testing was marred by a porpoising issue, which put it far behind Ferrari and Red Bull in the race for first place. But Mercedes was able to steer the car’s development in a way that allowed it to address many of the issues and restore performance, enabling it to triumph in Brazil’s penultimate race of the year.

Recovery

Ferrari driver Leclerc is certain that Mercedes will be back in the middle of the action at the front of the pack next year as a result of its recovery, perhaps setting up a three-team battle with Red Bull. Leclerc, a three-time Ferrari winner this year, said, “I do think Mercedes will be in the battle.” Another squad? I haven’t yet noticed anything that would lead me to think that a fourth team will join the top three. But Mercedes will undoubtedly be present the following year with a powerful vehicle. From the first race to the most recent race, we can observe how much they have progressed. “I believe they recognised their mistakes, which is usually an indication that things will turn out better. “Hopefully, a three-team fight will take place next year.”

Lear from struggles

The Italian team started the year off on pace with Red Bull in terms of performance, taking two of the first three races, but as the year went on, they started to fall behind. Leclerc stated his belief, however, that Ferrari would be able to learn from its difficulties in 2022 and overcome them in time for the new season, which will begin in Bahrain in March. Leclerc stated, “I am confident since we are working hard at the simulator. “Over the past year, we’ve worked incredibly hard to try and identify what this car’s limitations were in order to improve for next year’s car. “I also believe that we have been moving in the right direction and in the right way since the 2021 season, when we’ve been working really well and resetting things somewhat after the terrible 2020 season,”
