Michael Schmidt claims that Honda would like to rejoin Formula 1, but it could be too late to talk to Red Bull Racing. Along with Honda, Porsche, and Audi, other manufacturers could be drawn to the activity. The Volkswagen Group will enter the sport, with Porsche and Audi as potential engine providers, as has long been known. Now the question that arises is whether it will be a very late call for Honda to join back the sport or not.

Are Honda and Porsche together ?

Porsche has very clear intentions that they would want to work in a collaboration with Red Bull Racing as their engine providers. On the other hand, Audi believes that with Red Bull most probably having an alliance with Porsche, Alfa Romeo Sauber is the best option and alternative for them to enter the motorsport. Red Bull’s home race, the Austrian Grand Prix, is expected to be the venue for the announcement of the alliance.

Too late for Honda ?

Schmidt said in a broadcast by Auto, Motor und Sport that Honda would be interested in returning to the sport as well, but that a new relationship with Red Bull would not be possible if the choice is made too late. The contract with Porsche could already be finalized by the time Honda wants to talk about rejoining Max Verstappen’s team. The German writer said that Honda will thus think of other options, like purchasing another team or collaborating with AlphaTauri.

The new manufacturer

Michael Schmidt also adds that there is another manufacturer interested in joining the sport in addition to Porsche, Audi, and Honda. “There is said to be another manufacturer, so one hears in Formula 1 circles, but no one knows who it is. More news will follow after the summer break, Stefano Domenicali has let us know.” disclosed Schmidt. Now who is the new manufacturer who will enter the sport, with whom and when will this happen ? Only time will tell.
