Alonso is moving to Aston Martin for the upcoming season after signing a long-term contract, leaving Alpine after two seasons following his return to Formula One at the beginning of 2021. Alonso has been released by Alpine and is set to get a day’s worth of running with Aston Martin as part of an agreement among numerous teams for them to try their new 2023 drivers at the Abu Dhabi test following the F1 finale. While the run won’t give him a lot of insight into what to expect from the team’s AMR23, it will have advantages that will enable him get started right away when the 2023 challenger does run for the first time.

Tailor Made

Aston Martin has made some encouraging strides in recent races, but it did have a disappointing weekend in Mexico because its vehicle did not work well at that altitude and track. Although Alonso believes the team is making progress, he believes there won’t be true satisfaction until it is at the top of the grid. He remarked of the test, “It is significant. Performance-wise, it won’t matter because everyone will have a very different car the following year. It will be good to spend a day in the automobile, but in terms of comfort, seat, steering wheel, buttons, and other things that I would love to maybe change and get into my tailor-made stuff. So I’m anticipating.

Luck ?

Alonso believes that luck is one thing that he hopes will work in his favour next season. He estimates that due to his lack of consistency and bad luck at Alpine, he has lost about 60 points this year. This year, he said, “I don’t think anyone in Aston Martin is looking at the results so much.” Although it’s encouraging to see some progress, I don’t believe Aston Martin is in this to take fifth, sixth, or fourth place in the constructors’ championship. We’ll aim to accomplish that in 2023 and 2024 because it’s here to win the world title.

I anticipate having a tonne of luck the following year in every aspect, he said, after 2022. “This year has been incredible. “I know there were a lot of discussions after Mexico, and this year there have been five DNFs due to engine problems, but there are four more races where I finished without a battery, or the car wouldn’t start in Austria, or I lost a wheel during the pit stop. “Therefore, it was amazing: Nine or so races had issues out of twenty. Nearly all races are represented.
