The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix might have been founded only in 2019 but Formula One has a rich history at the Imola track. It was home to the iconic San Marino GP from 1981 to 2006 and the Italian GP in 1980. In total, the track has hosted 27 F1 races, a lot of which have been absolutely epic. The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, or simply Imola, has been part of racing history since 1953. Construction of the circuit began in 1950 and it was ready for testing purposes by 1952. It took a decade before an official F1 competition was held at the track but 1963 saw a non-championship race held at the venue.
Therefore, it is safe to say that a number of legendary F1 drivers have showcased their skills at the venue. Not only at Imola, but Ayrton Senna has to be one of the most successful drivers in qualifying in F1 history. The former world champion started from pole on the track 1985 to 1991, which is really an outstanding feat. The Brazilian is considered to be arguably the greatest F1 driver of all time by many, over the likes of Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. So, it is no surprise that we find the racing legend at the top of this list.
When one thinks F1, one thinks Michael Schumacher. As far as numbers go, the German is arguably the greatest ever driver the sport has ever seen. At Imola, Schumacher has had a pretty impressive record with Ferrari and Benetton. Schumacher has claimed pole position at the Italian circuit in 1995, 1996, 2002, 2003 and 2006.

Arnoux is not a driver whose reputation is as big as the names above him. However, the Frenchman took a serious liking to the Imola track as he notched up three pole positions. Arnoux sat on pole with Renault at Imola in 1980 and 1982, and then once again with Ferrari in 1983.
