According to a report, Charles Leclerc’s contract with Ferrari has an escape clause that might enable him to depart at the conclusion of the 2022 season. Charles Leclerc’s championship challenge has deteriorated since his first three races of the season, when he finished P2 twice and won twice. His team’s strategy mistakes and a DNF in Baku have led to dissatisfaction within the team. After the race, Leclerc’s unhappiness over placing fourth in the British Grand Prix was evident.

Leclerc not happy with Ferrari ?

Following the Ferrari’s odd strategy decisions at the British Grand Prix last Sunday, allegations of a fracture inside Ferrari have surfaced. Carlos Sainz helped the Scuderia win the race, but Charles Leclerc was angry that it took so long for his team to let him past his slower colleague earlier in the race. Leclerc was also left out on the track when a late safety car was deployed, forcing him to compete against his opponents on worn-out tyres.

The exit clause

Charles Leclerc’s contract apparently features a clause that might force him to depart at the conclusion of the 2022 season, which could be a problem for Ferrari. This condition, however, would only go into effect if Ferrari came in lower than third in the constructors’ standings. Mercedes is now in third place, 61 points behind second-placed Ferrari. Fortunately for the Scuderia, McLaren is 192 points behind them in fourth position, thus it is doubtful that they will finish outside the top three this year.

‘I am disappointed on my side’

Following last weekend’s British Grand Prix, Leclerc attempted to quell any notion of discord inside the squad. The Monegasque driver stated that he had not lost faith in his team. “As much as I am disappointed on my side. I don’t think this should be a headline on what is an amazing first victory on Carlos. It’s a dream come true. Whenever you are a child, you dream of this moment, and especially with Ferrari. He needs to enjoy it, it’s his day, and hopefully next time it will be my day.”

Tension between Binotto and Leclerc ?

There looks to be some animosity within Ferrari’s garage when a photo of Leclerc and his Team Principal made headlines at Silverstone. Mattia Binotto was seen on tape yelling at Leclerc and shaking his finger at his star driver. “There is nothing to sort out internally. I think it was simply to tell him, ‘I understand your disappointment but you did a fantastic race today.’ Fighting at the start, fighting later on when he was on the hards and the others were on softs.” said Binotto after the British GP.
