A bold red and black livery has replaced the red and white colour scheme used during recent campaigns on Alfa Romeo’s new car for the upcoming Formula One season, the C43. Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, who together finished P6 in the constructors’ standings last year, jointly presented the vehicle to the world in Zurich and at the company’s headquarters in Hinwil, Switzerland. The vehicle was described as aggressive on and below the skin. On Alfa Romeo’s social media channels, a number of CGI images and videos showed the C43 coming together piece by piece, and Augmented Reality allowed fans to recreate the launch experience in their own homes. In order to make way for Audi’s partnership with the Sauber-run team, the new title sponsor Stake has taken centre stage on the livery, which will be the last to bear Alfa Romeo branding.

Alessandro Alunni Bravi, the managing director of Sauber Group, took over as the team’s new “Team Representative” during the winter managerial restructuring that saw former team manager Frederic Vasseur leave for Ferrari and Andreas Seidl join from McLaren. Speaking of the launch of the C43, Alunni Bravi commented: “Bringing a car to life is a long process which touches every department of a racing team, therefore it’s a moment of great pride to see it unveiled today.”

“We chose to do it in front of our fans, close to our home, because the launch of a new car is not only a moment to state your objectives for the season ahead; it’s also a time to give back to the people who have supported you, be it in the grandstands, in front of the TV or back at the factory, and express our gratitude for their passion and their belief in our project.

The brand-new Alfa Romeo will conduct a shakedown run in Barcelona this week before travelling to Bahrain for preseason testing from February 23–25 and the 2023 season-opening Sakhir event the following week. On the eve of the Bahrain test, the C43 will also be included—a first for the world—in the official F1 2022 video game, giving fans the chance to virtually test it out.
