The 2022 Formula One season has not gone as planned for Aston Martin. The team scored only six points and is ranked ninth in the constructors’ standings. Due to porpoising issues, Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel are struggling to drive the vehicle. Over the summer, long-time team principal Otmar Szafnauer quit the organization, resulting in a major management restructuring. Mike Krack has taken his spot on the team and faces a hard assignment. The first two races of the year were difficult, especially given Vettel’s absence due to a positive Covid result.

Vettel’s first outing of the year in Australia didn’t go according to plan either as the team remained point-less after three rounds. Imola, on the other hand, proved to be a game changer. Both Vettel and Stroll finished in the points and collected vital team points, kicking off their season. The AMR22 looked powerful again in last week’s race in Miami, where Stroll finished P10 in a challenging race. According to the claims the Silverstone-based team will make significant changes to the car ahead of the upcoming round of F1 racing in Spain.

A new AMR-22 in Barcelona

This looks like an attempt to grab something more than just a midfield spot on the grid. As a result, the team is developing a new AMR22. The goal is to debut the new B-version of the vehicle in Barcelona, but delivery issues might mean that there will only be one B-version and one old AMR22 on the grid in Spain. The team will aim to put both Vettel and Stroll in points taking position and hopefully have better finish and results for the team.

Attempt to put Vettel on the podium

Sebastian Vettel has not won a race since the 2019 season, when he was driving for Ferrari. Since then, the four-time World Champion has struggled in F1, scoring only two podium finishes. Vettel’s most recent podium result was second in Baku last year. He also finished on the podium in Hungary last year before being disqualified due to a fuel sample problem. Vettel, now 34, does not have much time left in F1, especially with a car that appears to be always trapped in the midfield. However, if the expected Aston Martin improvements go smoothly, the former Red Bull driver might have everything going his way.

The Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona, is a favorite for teams to introduce their new upgrades during a season. The British team intends to run an ‘essentially new vehicle’ for the Spanish GP, which will be welcomed by team supporters and Vettel alike.
