This April, all platforms will be able to enjoy The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, which will follow the Unshackled Sylas as he organises a mage army and sparks a revolution in Demacia. Following the release of Ruined King, League fans can anticipate that The Mageseeker will be jam-packed with both old and new lore that will aid newcomers to Runeterra in better comprehending the narrative. However, in addition to commanding a rebel army of mages, players might also need to act as a detective to learn the details of Jarvan III’s murder, who was the King of Demacia and the father of one of the League champions in the game.

The Mageseeker appears to be a strong contender to be the best Riot Forge game to date, surpassing Hextech Mayhem and Ruined King, based on the brief demo I played of it at a Nintendo Indies event at GDC 2023.

Who killed the king of Demacia might be revealed by the Mageseeker game:

The lore that has so far been made public through comic books and short stories claims that King Jarvan III was assassinated on the day Sylas rebelled against Demacia and set off the civil war that threatened to devastate the country. The Unshackled is initially suspected of carrying out the murder, but in the Lux comics, we find out that the King was actually killed by someone else who was present inside the palace during the uprising. While none of the mages who accompanied prince Jarvan IV to the late king’s chambers were at fault, Sylas questions them.

According to IGN’s exclusive game footage, the beginning of the game takes place between the end of the fourth and the start of the fifth issue of the comics, and the topic of the king’s assassination is raised early on.

Many people believe Sylas is responsible for the king’s mysterious death, and some of the mages who fled with him have even identified the Unshackled as “the mage who killed the king.” Sylas doesn’t correct them, choosing to let them continue to think this way because it might be “useful” to him.

Players will uncover national secrets buried deep within the Great City of Demacia and its white walls as the game progresses, and it wouldn’t be surprising if a turn of events also revealed the real assassin responsible for the previous king’s death.

While it’s possible that the killer’s identity remains a mystery even after the game’s events for the sake of Sylas’ lore, there may be a few ways to do so without changing the previously told tales. One of them might involve having Sylas confront the assassin, who might be someone nearby, only for that person to pass away shortly after the confrontation without ever revealing their true identity to anyone other than the Unshackled.
