Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 offers players bonus XP for pulling off various accolades in the game. In-game challenges give you XP, unlock bonus challenges after completing all the daily tasks, and some challenges let you unlock weapon cosmetics. Similarly, as soon as you kill your enemy in the battlefield, you will see some prompts on your screen. These include outright murders, revenge and many more. The hint of straight-up kills in Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) has players wondering what it’s all about. What do point-blank kills mean in MW2 and this article will also guide you to get them in the game.

What is a Point-Blank kill in Modern Warfare 2?

The Oxford Language definition of point-blank is “(of a shot, bullet, or other missile) fired very close to its target.” A point-blank prompt will pop up when you shoot and kill someone close to you. Simply put, a point-blank kill in MW2 is when you hit a target that is less than five meters away from you. If you keep a close angle in the choke position, you’ll get more up-close-and-personal kills.

While camping is a great sin in Call of Duty, it can easily get you point blank kills. A close angle essentially means that you are positioned in such a way that others cannot see you, especially in choke position. Or you can run around the map, turn a corner and shoot your opponent as they run into you.

How to get point-blank kills?

Players should note that it doesn’t matter what type of weapon you shoot your opponents with, as long as you get close enough to hit them. But remember that some weapons are better at short range. For example, using a sniper rifle for short range kills would not be ideal. The reload time is absurdly long and while you’re doing it, someone else can sneak up from behind and kill you. In these situations it is always safe to go for the Submachine Gun (SMG) as they are powerful at close range. You can also opt for the shotgun or pistol if you are confident that your shot will kill them instantly.

Second, the perks you get for trying to outright kill are significant. You should try out advantages that allow you to move around without revealing your location. You can consider perks like cold blooded and double time. While Cold Blooded hides you from enemy optics, Double Time will allow you to perform longer tactical sprints and grant 30% movement speed to crouch. You can also have equipment like Dead Silence which will temporarily suppress your steps.

Ideally when an enemy is extremely close, you can also consider just hip firing into their torso as there is no need for extra accuracy by aiming downward at such close range. Firing SMGs, Shotguns and Pistols at very close range will definitely do the job.

As mentioned earlier, close-range kills are extremely unlikely to occur in open spaces. The idea is to be smart when choosing areas to eliminate this sign. Some areas of the maps have limited space and are better suited for this. For example, the Breinberg Hotel Corridor and the Santa Cena Border Crossing.
