Uma Musume Pretty Derby, the mobile game developed by Cygames, has surpassed the US$2 billion mark as of March 2023, according to mobile app data analysis organization Sensor Tower. Despite having only been released in South Korea and Taiwan in 2022, the game has seen 95% of its earnings come from Japan. Sensor Tower also reported that the game earned an impressive US$55 million in just two weeks after launching its second two-year anniversary celebration event on February 24, 2023.

Game Overview

Uma Musume Pretty Derby is a smartphone game that was originally scheduled for a winter 2018 release but was delayed in order to improve its quality. The game launched for iOS and Android in February 2021 and was followed by a release on PC via DMM Games in March of the same year. The game features anthropomorphic horse girls known as Uma Musume, and players train and race them to become champions.

Television Anime

The Uma Musume Pretty Derby franchise is based on a television anime series that premiered in April 2018, with a second season following in January 2021. Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired in Japan. The franchise’s third season is set to premiere later this year. In addition to the television anime, the franchise has also inspired a spinoff manga series called Umayon, which was adapted into its own television anime that aired from July to September 2020.
