The First Slam Dunk anime film has been on a dream run. The new anime film based on Takehiko Inoue’s Slam Dunk basketball manga, crossed $32,712,232 in earnings, and managed to sell 4,155,088 tickets in South Korea.

The film is currently at the #2 spot in its 11th weekend in the country. The movie earned $883,724 during the weekend. It sold 107,515 tickets and was screened on 701 screens. Suzume grabbed the top spot in South Korea for the weekend, earning $15,738,475 and selling 1.9 million tickets in the country.

Highest-selling anime film in South Korea

The First Slam Dunk was released on January 4 in South Korea. On its fourth weekend, the movie climbed to the top spot, beating Avatar: The Way of Water. It became the highest-selling anime film ever in South Korea, selling a total of 3,818,000 tickets and raking in $30,386,627 in earnings in its 9th weekend. The film also managed to beat Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name as the highest-earning anime movie in South Korea.

The film was released on December 3 in Japan and ranked #1 in its first weekend. The movie sold 847,000 tickets and earned around $9.50 million over the weekend. As of now, the film stands at the 27th spot in the list of highest-earning films of all time in Japan. The film received Animation of the Year award at the 46th annual Japan Academy Film Prizes.

The film was directed at Toei Animation by Inoue. The staff members listed are character designer Yasuyuki Ebara and technical directors Katsuhiko Kitada, Naoki Miyahara, Toshio Ohashi, and Yu Kamatani. The CG of the film has been directed by Daiki Nakazawa and produced by Yuta Ogura. Kazuo Ogura was the director of art, and Yota Tsuruoka directed the sound with Koji Kasamatsu.

The movie opened in Japan on December 3 in around 40 cinemas with IMAX screenings. The film also had Dolby Atmos screenings in 34 cinemas. The movie also added Dolby Cinema screenings on December 10.

The First Slam Dunk wins Japan Academy Film Prize

The Japan Academy Film Prize Association announced the 46th annual Japan Academy Film Prizes winners. The ceremony was held at an awards ceremony at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo.

The First Slam Dunk, the new anime film of Takehiko Inoue’s Slam Dunk basketball manga, received Animation of the Year. The other films nominated for Animation of the year were Suzume, INU-OH, One Piece Film Red, and Lonely Castly in the Mirror.

RADWIMPS and Kazuma Jinnouchi received the award for Best Music for Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume film. Osamu Ichikawa and Keizo Suzuki and Eri Sakushima received the award for best Cinematography, Sosuke Yoshikado won Best Lighting, and Yuji Hayashida and Eri Sakushima won Best Art Direction, all for Shin Ultraman. Shin Ultraman and Anime Supremacy were also among the five nominees for this year’s Best Picture.
