FromSoftware has announced that it is developing an expansion for its popular game Elden Ring. The new entrant will be called “Shadow of the Erdtree.” However, the developer is yet to provide a timeframe for the expansion’s release.

FromSoftware released Elden Ring in February 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The game became an instant hit, surpassing 12 million units in sales across the world in just a month. It also overtook Call of Duty: Vanguard as the best-selling game in the US in the last year ending in April 2022.

Hidetaka Miyazaki and Game of Thrones fame author George R.R. Martin came together to create the game’s world. The game also received the Game of the Year at the DICE Awards, The Golden Joystick Awards, and The Game Awards. Elden Ring also won a Grand Award at the PlayStation Partner Awards in December.

Nintendo to skip E3 2023

Nintendo has confirmed to several gaming press outlets, including IGN that it will not be participating in E3 2023 event. The company’s statement to IGN explained that “this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into [its] plans,” but added it will “continue to be a strong supporter of the ESA and E3.”

IGN had previously reported that several sources close to the matter told them that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo would not take part in E3 2023 gaming showcase event. Sony stopped attending the event in 2019. Sony also started showcasing its upcoming games through a dedicated event called State of Play.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) previously announced on September 26 that it would partner with an event production company named ReedPop to bring back the in-person E3 event on 13-16.

E3 Business Days will be scheduled from June 13-15 and will be reserved for industry personnel. E3 Gamer Days are slated to be held on June 15-16, and they will take place in a separate hall from the industry area. Besides, the event will also see partnered digital events and showcases before and during the show, starting June 11.

The ESA canceled 2022’s E3 event, and there was no in-person or digital component. The ESA held E3 2021 as a virtual event after drawing the curtains on its in-person event in February 2021. The ESA canceled the physical E3 2020 event and did not hold an online event that year.

Xbox could skip E3 as well

Xbox has attended previous E3 events and has even been on the board of the Entertainment Software Association that organizes E3. So its decision to not show up at the gaming event could come as a surprise to many as they were most likely to be there.

At the last physical E3 in 2019, Xbox installed booths in the neighboring Microsoft Stadium instead of the convention center.
