Riot Games, the developer of Valorant, has suspended four pro players from Valorant Game Changers for various offenses, including cheating, misleading officials about their gender identity, and making discriminatory comments. Two different competitive rulesets were published on Thursday (9 February) for Alex “dyslexic” Luong and Jennifer “nabichu” Cho, as well as Caroline “carosmack” Peterson and Megan “lemonorio” Lai.

The gender qualification of dyslexic also contravened the admission requirements. According to Riot’s statement, the incident occurred on October 8, 2022, after Riot’s anti-cheat team detected “multiple instances” of dyslexic using banned third-party programs. Former teammate Jennifer “Nabichu” Cho, who played alongside Dyslexic during the match, was banned for five years and convicted by the association for misleading officials about Dyslexic’s gender qualification.

EQ Cerise was disqualified as a result on 9 October. “Dyslexic violated the Valorant Champions Tour Global Competition Policy by using a prohibited third-party program to cheat during competitive matches and against CLG Raid,” the statement read. “The dyslexic, who identifies as himself, reached out to Nabichu, a member of EQ Series, and offered to mislead officials by changing his gender identity to a non-binary player in order to play against CLG Red,” Riot reported. said a statement. “Nabichu consented and assisted Dyslexic by supporting his gender identity as nonbinary to the EQ Series and tournament officials.”

Two other players have also been suspended. Game Changers players Caroline “Carosmack” Peterson and Megan “LemonOreo” Lai have been banned from competing in Riot-sanctioned events for a year after the pair sent discriminatory memes to a Discord channel that contained nearly 70 people. Riot said in a statement that the discriminatory meme, which was sent in October last year, was racist in nature and that the help of an anonymous reporter was taken in the investigation.

The player admitted he lied about identifying as non-binary in a public apology on October 10. “I want to emphasize that no one else at EQ Cerise knew that I was faking my non-binary status in order to play Game Changers other than Jenny,” Dyslexic said. “I sincerely apologize to my teammates for lying about my non-binary status in order to play in Game Changers.”

“Riot Games does not condone any discriminatory act or behavior, including those revolving around race, gender, age, or any other personal characteristic,” Riot said. “Riot investigators found no aggravating or mitigating factors during [the] investigation.” They also apologized for “violating the safe environment for marginalized genders to compete”.
