Fans of the Princess Principal anime franchise were in for a treat as Emotion, the official website of the series, began streaming the first 11 minutes of the third film in the six-part Princess Principal: Crown Handler sequel film series on Sunday. The film, which opened in Japan on Friday, has been highly anticipated by fans of the franchise.

Control Group Suspects Double Agent in Royal Family

The Princess Principal: Crown Handler sequel film series follows the story of the attempted assassination of the Queen, which leads to manhunts for spies becoming a frequent occurrence within the Kingdom. In response, Control, the Commonwealth’s covert operations group, begins to suspect the presence of a double agent within the Kingdom’s royal family. To reveal the truth, Control dispatches spy ring “Team White Pigeon.” But danger lurks around every corner, and when you don’t know who you can trust, being a spy has never been more perilous for Ange and the rest of Team White Pigeon.

Delayed Release Due to COVID-19

The first film in the series was originally slated to open in April 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It eventually opened in February 2021, while the second film opened in Japan in September 2021. Sentai Filmworks has licensed the entire six-part film series, allowing fans around the world to enjoy the thrilling spy story.

Creative Team Returns for Princess Principal: Crown Handler

Masaki Tachibana, who directed the previous television series, returns to direct the films at Actas. Noboru Kimura, known for his work on Gundam Build Divers and Solty Rei, is supervising and writing the scripts, taking over from the television anime’s Ichiro Okouchi, who worked on Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.

Kouhaku Kuroboshi, known for Kino’s Journey and Sky Girls, is credited with the original character designs, while Yukie Akiya, who worked on Celestial Method and Code:Breaker, adapted the designs for animation. Kimitake Nishio, known for Moetan and ToHeart2, is also designing characters for the films and is credited as the sole chief animation director. Yuki Kajiura, who composed the music for Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero, returns to compose the music for Princess Principal: Crown Handler, with sound director Yoshikazu Iwanami.

Opening and Ending Themes

Void_Chords feat. Yui Mugino performs the film series’ opening theme “LIES & TIES,” while the ending theme song “Nowhere Land” is performed by the five main cast members. Sentai Filmworks licensed the television anime series for the summer 2017 streaming season and also for home video.
