One Piece Chapter 1049: Kaido’s flashback

He’s proven to be the strongest soldier in the Vodka Kingdom even at the age of ten. The flashback then jumps forward 3 years (46 years before the current point in the story), revealing Kaido as a 13-year-old boy. He’s speaking with the King of the Vodka Kingdom, who is emphasising that war is their only option for raising the funds for the Celestial Tribute.

Kaido questions why the king allows the Celestial Dragons to order him around, but the king simply responds that they’ve given Kaido up to the Marines. Kaido screams that he does not want to be a “government dog,” but the king explains that the kingdom simply cannot handle him.

A present marine representative claims that if Kaido is given to them, the Vodka Kingdom will be guaranteed a spot in the next Reverie. Before the scene shifts to a Marine ship, where Kaido has just fled, the latter screams out that he is not a political bargaining chip.

The idea of Kaido being caught on purpose for free meals is introduced here, which enrages the Marines on board. This explains why he, The Strongest Creature, would allow himself to be captured onboard a Navy ship 18 times.

The flashback then jumps ahead two years to show a 15-year-old Kaido fighting on Fullalead Island. This appears to be the same island where Blackbeard was last seen, and it has been transformed into his operational headquarters. The island appears to have been a pirate haven 44 years ago.

Despite his youth, onlookers applaud Kaido’s strength after he appears to have won a fight in the flashback. A young Whitebeard appears out of nowhere, calling out to him and saying Rocks wants to speak with him. The following panel depicts the Rocks Pirates Ship, with someone announcing that Kaido has officially joined their crew.

Rumors circulated about their defeat, with one claiming that internal strife was to blame, while another correctly claims that a Marine named Garp defeated them. The next panel depicts a woman dressed similarly to Big Mom at the time, crying out for Kaido and asking where he went. The flashback then jumps forward again, this time to ten years in the future, or 34 years before the story begins. Kurozumi Higurashi is seen conversing with Kaido, cementing his new moniker “Embodiment of Brutality.” She goes on to say that throughout history, cruelty has always been used to solve problems.

It’s unclear, but Higurashi appears to be continuing, claiming that humans are no different than other animals and that survival of the fittest is their true essence. Kaido says he completely agrees, implying that everything will now revolve around the former members of Rocks’ team.

Kaido is then seen returning to his throne room and informing King that Yamato mentioned Joy Boy, thus learning the name. He goes on to say that Oden wanted to open Wano in preparation for Joy Boy’s arrival. He tells King that he knows who Joy Boy is as the flashback ends and One Piece chapter 1049 returns to the present.

One Piece Chapter 1049 Raw Scan: Onigashima falls?

One Piece chapter 1049 then returns to the present, where Luffy and Kaido are still fighting Haki. At this point, the CP0 agent with the flowery mask is seen fleeing Onigashima, having likely gathered all the information he requires and predicting the outcome of the battle.

Meanwhile, Momonosuke expresses his confidence in Luffy, and Yamato advises him to “do it,” referring to creating his own flame clouds. He screams for his flame clouds to obey him as images of the Flower Capital and the interior of Onigashima appear, but to no avail.

Kawamatsu’s group can be seen looking at a section of Onigashima castle that appears to still be on fire. Then Raizou and Jinbe appear, with the former proclaiming that Zou’s water will save everyone. Because their Devil Fruits and Zou’s water are ocean water, Robin and Brook are seen unconscious in the water.

Other characters, such as Law and Apoo, are seen being swept away by the water or passing it by as it erupts near Kawamatsu’s party. The next two panels show Usopp, Kin’emon, Okiku, Nami, Otama, and Chopper before the water rushes out and away from Onigashima.

Sanji is still seen with the previous geisha and her mouse, Osome-chan, as are Franky and Zoro, with the former hilariously yelling at others for being washed away. The focus then shifts to the Treasure Hall, where Denjiro embraces Hiyori and praises her for her years of silent suffering. As Kaido’s flame clouds fade away, Onigashima begins to fall. Yamato and Momonosuke are surprised by this development, knowing the consequences of Onigashima’s lack of Flame Clouds. One Piece chapter 1049 returns to the Kaido versus Luffy segment, with the former having a question for the latter.

One Piece chapter 1049 returns the focus to Kaido and Luffy, who appear to be nearing the end of their battle. As his fist breaks through the former’s offensive, he responds that he wants to create a world where his friends can eat as much as they want.

As he fully lands his punch on Kaido, Luffy screams how that’s the kind of world he’d enjoy. The former is hurled into the ground of mainland Wano, where he collides with such force that a dragon-shaped hole forms around him. Continuing their earlier conversation, Kaido tells King that Joy Boy is the only man who can defeat him. As Onigashima is seen safely descending to mainland Wano, King responds that he doesn’t think he’ll ever appear if that’s the case.

Despite the fact that all signs point to Kaido versus Luffy ending with One Piece chapter 1049, some fans believe the fight isn’t over yet. The fact that the narrator has not officially declared Luffy the winner is significant evidence in this regard. This has been the case in every Onigashima fight thus far, including the first round, which Kaido won. Furthermore, fans believe that Kaido’s flashback isn’t finished yet, and that he has more to show through an additional round of their fight. Fans believe that Kaido’s Awakening will be formally announced here, and that he will use it to resurrect himself for the next round of his fight with Luffy.

While One Piece chapter 1049 may mark the end of their battle, the narrator’s lack of a formal announcement is certainly odd. The series’ author, Eiichiro Oda, is meticulous in his attention to detail and would not have overlooked something that occurred in every other fight.
