Fans of the Horimiya anime were thrilled to learn at the AnimeJapan event on Saturday that a new series, called Horimiya -piece-, will premiere in Japan in July 2023. The new anime will adapt stories from the Horimiya manga that were not covered in the previous anime adaptation.

Horimiya -piece- will reunite most of the cast and staff from the first anime. The returning cast includes Haruka Tomatsu as Kyoko Hori, Kouki Uchiyama as Izumi Miyamura, Seiichirō Yamashita as Toru Ishikawa, Yurie Kozakai as Yuki Yoshikawa, and many more. Meanwhile, the returning staff includes director Masashi Ishihama, series script supervisor Takao Yoshioka, and character designer Haruko Iizuka, among others.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to a rerun of the first anime, which will air in Japan beginning on April 22, 2023.

Horimiya is a romantic comedy manga written by HERO and illustrated by Daisuke Hagiwara. It follows the story of two high school students, Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura, who seem to be completely different from each other at first glance. However, they soon discover that they have more in common than they realized and form an unexpected bond.

The manga began serialization in Square Enix’s Monthly G Fantasy magazine in 2011, and it ended in March 2021 after a successful ten-year run. Yen Press publishes the manga in English.

The Horimiya anime premiered in Japan in February 2021 and was streamed on Funimation. It was widely praised for its portrayal of the two main characters and their evolving relationship, as well as its realistic depiction of high school life.

Horimiya -piece-: What to Expect?

While fans of the manga and anime already know and love the characters of Horimiya, the new anime will offer fresh content for them to enjoy. The stories in Horimiya -piece- were not included in the first anime adaptation, so fans can expect to see new plot developments and character interactions.

It is also worth noting that the new anime will be produced by CloverWorks, the studio responsible for the first anime adaptation. This means that fans can likely expect the same high-quality animation and attention to detail that they enjoyed in the original series.

Final Thoughts

Horimiya -piece- promises to be an exciting addition to the Horimiya franchise. With the return of the majority of the cast and staff from the previous anime, fans can rest assured that the new series will be just as charming and heartwarming as the first. We can’t wait to see what new adventures Kyoko, Izumi, and their friends will have in store for us when the new anime premieres this July.
