Goscicki explains that after two and a half years, the team finally feels like they have a better grasp on when and how to introduce new agents while maintaining the game. “Creating a new agent takes a long time, so we’re always thinking about the current state of the game and the future state of the game when introducing one,” he explained.

There will be a new initiator and a new watchdog later this year. Riot was quiet about the third and final Agent class arriving in 2023, though. The third agent is likely in early development and Riot may not be able to pinpoint the class with which he would fit. Or, as some fans are speculating, we could see a new Agent class being added to the game. But this remains speculation. Anyone who’s played any type of character-based game can certainly attest to the fact that it’s not always perfectly balanced. Also, not all character types have the same number of options and this was pointed out as part of the announcement.

Goscicki said that not every class will have as many agents as are added to the game. “As always, we need to maintain a good balance of roles and playstyles,” he said. “But as we’ve added a lot more agents to the game, we don’t need to have a one-to-one balance across all roles.” Goscicki said in the State of the Agents video that the next Agent that is set to join the game will introduce a new way to probe corners and reach locations. However, Goscicki didn’t reveal much about the next agent.

The latest agent to be added to Valorant, Controller Harbor, was released last October. His impact has been felt at the professional level, mostly because he is quite unpopular in ranked and other game modes. In VCT LOCK // IN, he has been played nine times, according to VALORANT data site The Spike, while another controller, the Brimstone, has only been picked up seven times so far. Valorant launched with a total of ten agents before releasing Reyna as the first additional character to join the fray. Since then, ten more have been added and we now know that the popular first-person shooter will sport 24 by the end of the year thanks to the upcoming new Valorant agents.
