In the first week of VCT 2023, two legendary VALORANT agents were left unplayed:

The Spike.gg statistics show that Chamber and Reyna both have zero percent pick rates for the 2023 VCT regular season. Chamber still saw some play at the first LOCK/IN tournament of this season, despite the fact that his disappearance from the meta has largely been on everyone’s mind since his significant nerfs went into effect at the end of 2022. He hasn’t fallen as far from the top of the list of the agents chosen in ranked play, either.

However, it appears that Chamber’s career is officially over given that he hasn’t appeared in any of the 11 games that have been played so far across both regions. Along with his nerfs, which completely destroyed the agent’s momentum and fluidity, especially with his Rendezvous ability, Chamber also suffered from the fact that the game’s current meta didn’t work well with his remaining strengths.

Teams are forced to engage in closer combat in more constrained areas on maps like Split and Lotus because Bind and Breeze are both excluded from the map pool. Other Sentinels just perform better on these maps. For instance, Killjoy has been thriving in this meta. Reyna is the other agent who appears to consistently experience a significant disparity between the number of times she is played in professional play versus casual play. Reyna is a very well-liked agent among players in both competitive and casual queues, but she is rarely used on the VCT stage.

Reyna is an agent who thrives on her own performance, which is one of the reasons why she seems to perform better in ranked games. Meaning that you can take matters into your own hands and snowball every round as Reyna if you have a disjointed team, such as one where Skye keeps flashing you with every eagle she sends out (we’ve all been there). Reyna, however, just comes off as lacking in a coordinated team setting when compared to Jett and other duelist options. Professional players almost never choose to use a Reyna over a Jett because of the former’s superior utility.

Reyna has been utilised by a select few players on the professional level, but it doesn’t appear that teams will begin using her anytime soon. We’ll have to wait and see if Chamber and Reyna see any action once the VCT Americas league gets underway. This season, the Americas is home to some of the best Chamber players in the world, so if he makes an appearance, it might be there.
