You may download Fortnite and start playing right away if your compatible Android phone or tablet has enough of free storage. But there’s a catch: Google has removed Fortnite from its Play Store. If you search for it and discover it on Google’s store, it’s a scam, and you risk infecting your device with malware or spyware. How to get Fortnite on Android

Fortnite was a great hit on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store in the past. However, Apple and Google quickly removed the game from their stores after an upgrade that allowed players to make in-app purchases directly from Epic. If you do a search, you won’t find the official game. On the Google Play Store, you’ll instead find unauthorised clones.

While some programmes are likely to be safe, some may be malicious and attempt to steal your personal information. Make sure you know what you’re downloading.

Which Android devices can run Fortnite?

Unlike Apple’s iOS and iPadOS, Android is a platform that supports a wide range of devices. There isn’t a comprehensive list of phones and tablets that can play Fortnite without issues. However, the following are the bare minimums.

  • Version: Android 8.0 or newer
  • RAM: 4GB or more
  • GPU: Adreno 530 or newer / Mali-G71 MP20 / Mali-G72 MP12 or newer

Here is Epic’s list of Android phones that can run Fortnite at 60 frames per second (fps):

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (U.S. variant only)
  • Samsung Galaxy S10
  • Samsung Galaxy S10e
  • Samsung Galaxy S10+
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10+
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy S20
  • Samsung Galaxy S20+
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra
  • Samsung Galaxy A90 5G
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S6
  • Honor View20
  • Huawei Mate 20 X
  • Huawei P30
  • Huawei P30 Pro
  • Sony Xperia 1
  • Sony Xperia 5
  • Xiaomi Mi9
  • OnePlus 7 Pro
  • OnePlus 8
  • OnePlus 8 Pro
  • ASUS ROG Phone 2

These devices can run Fortnite at 90 fps:

  • OnePlus 8
  • OnePlus 8 Pro

Still have doubts about your phone’s ability to run Fortnite? In most cases, flagship phones from the last few years should work flawlessly. With midrange and inexpensive phones, however, you’re on shakier ground.

In the end, if you’re running Android 8.0 Oreo and have 4GB of RAM, it’s probably safe to install – how it performs is dependent on the hardware.

How to download Fortnite

No other phone manufacturers have inked a deal with Epic Games. Unless you have a Samsung phone, Fortnite will not be available in your app store. There is, however, a simple way to install Fortnite on your Android device:

Step 1: Open this webpage in your Android device’s browser or scan the QR code on the computer screen with your mobile.

Step 2: On the Epic Games App, press the Get It key.

Step 3: To install the EpicGamesApp.apk file, press OK.

Step 4: At the bottom of the page, click Open.

Step 5: If you used Chrome to download the file, you’ll get a message asking you to select Settings. Then, next to Allow From This Source, hit Toggle.

By enabling this feature, Chrome will now be able to install (i.e. sideload) anonymous apps that aren’t available on the Play Store. In this situation, you’re going to install the Epic Games app.

Step 6: To proceed, select the Back arrow in the top-left corner.

Step 7: To proceed, click Install on the pop-up box. Not Fortnite, but the Epic Games app is installed.

Step 8: After Epic’s app has been fully installed, click Open. Another way is to launch the Epic Games app from your home screen or the app drawer.

Step 9: Open the Epic Games app and go to Fortnite. On the store screen, hit the yellow Install button. After that, the base game will be downloaded to your smartphone.

Step 10: A message will display stating that Epic Games lacks the necessary permissions to install apps. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.

Step 11: To continue, touch the Back Arrow after tapping the Toggle button next to Allow From This Source.

Step 12: A prompt will appear, requesting permission to install the game. After installation, tap Install, then Done or Open.

Step 13: After launching the base game, select which features Fortnite has access to, then click Continue.

Step 14: If prompted, accept that Fortnite was created for an older Android version by tapping OK.

Step 15: Create a new account or connect in to an existing one and agree to the rules.

Step 16: To complete the remaining section of the game (8GB) that has to be downloaded, click the yellow Install button. The download normally takes some time to complete, so take a break to watch TV or bake a cake – you know, fun stuff like that.

Step 17: Now that your download is complete, you can begin playing your game.
