The first thing you should do is get out of the game and start it all over again. The problem may occur if there are pending hotfixes that need to be installed. If the restart doesn’t work, feel free to restart your PC or console and try one more time.

Some Overwatch 2 players are getting a message that says “Apply updates” when starting the game. But even after several minutes, the screen doesn’t go away. PC 

  1. Open the Battle.net desktop app.
  2. Click on the icon of the game you are trying to improve.
  3. Click on The Cogwheel next to the Play button and select Check for Updates.

Xbox 

If you set up your Xbox to automatically update games and applications in profiles and systems > settings > system are updated >, your games will be updated when new versions become available. As soon as you see

PlayStation

  • Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates.
  •  Turn on Auto-Download or Auto-Install in Rest Mode.

When you turn on auto-install, the next time you turn on your PS5 console, your games and apps will be updated to their latest versions. You can select Overwatch 2 and click on the Options menu to check for updates. Any pending updates will be installed immediately.

Nintendo Switch 

  1. Make sure that the Nintendo Switch console is connected to the Internet.
  2. From the Home menu, select the icon for Overwatch 2
  3. Press the + or – button on your controller, then select Software Update via the Internet.

Your game will be updated and you should be able to continue playing without running into the error of applying the update to Overwatch 2. If your game is still refusing to leave the “Apply Updates” screen after checking to update Overwatch 2, you may have to uninstall the game altogether. Then reinstall Overwatch 2.
