Guide To Change Your NAT Type To Open In Warzone

Call of Duty: Warzone has grown into one of the most skilled free-to-play Battle Royal games of the contemporary era, with a player population of 272,383 and counting since its release in March 2020. With so many players from all over the world, excruciating NAT Type problems are widespread, making surviving the Gulag nearly impossible. If you’re experiencing problems connecting to COD online services, fortunately, Get On Stream has you covered. guide to change nat type in COD mobile

Read on to learn about the differences between your NAT Types, their importance, and how to alter your NAT type in Call of Duty: Warzone on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X, and PC.

What are the different NAT Types?

Network Address Translation (NAT) is an acronym for Network Address Translation. Your NAT serves as a link between your gaming device and the rest of the internet. Different forms of NAT are used by different gaming devices. PlayStation, for example, has NAT Types 1, 2, and 3, but Xbox has NAT Types Open, Moderate, and Strict. (We’ll come back to PC later.)

NAT Types 1, 2, and 3 are the same as Open, Moderate, and Strict, despite their differing designations.

PlayStation NAT Types

Type 1 NAT: Full Connection with Poor Security. Your console is directly connected to a modem or a router, but it is not subject to its security constraints. There should be no problems with connection, however security breaches are possible.

Type 2 NAT: Full Connection with Moderate Security. This is the best NAT type for PlayStation online gaming. You’re connected to your router, and the router has permission to communicate with the PlayStation Network despite certain security constraints.

Type 3 NAT: Complete Connection with Complete Security. Your console is connected to the router, but it is not allowed to communicate with the PlayStation Network due to security constraints. guide to change nat type in COD mobile

Xbox NAT Types

Unlike PlayStation, Xbox is broader when determining its connection types.

NAT Type Open: Your console is directly connected to a router, and the router is allowed to overcome some security limitations in order to access Xbox Online services. Chat, video, downloads, and hosting multiplayer lobbies should all be unrestricted.

Moderate NAT Type: This NAT type is really perplexing. While you are theoretically connected to your router and hence to Xbox Live Services, there is a connection problem somewhere. This is mostly due to your ports talking with your router and Xbox console. You will encounter more substantial lags owing to increased pings on this NAT Type, and you will be unable to host.

Strict NAT Type: Without a doubt, the worst conceivable NAT type for online gaming. This connection type indicates that inbound connection requests are not forwarded to your Xbox by your router. You won’t be able to host multiplayer games, chat with other online players, or make video calls.

PC NAT Types

PC gaming, thankfully, uses the same NAT types as console gaming; especially, Microsoft’s scheme (Open, Moderate, and Strict). guide to change nat type in COD mobile

Why You Want an Open NAT Type

Think twice about marching into Warzone’s Verdansk with anything less than an Open NAT Type (or PlayStation NAT Type 2). For the best online experience, Get On Stream suggests keeping your NAT open.

How to Change Your NAT Type to Open on PlayStation

Changing your PS NAT type can be tricky; it’s not as simple as navigating through your PS4 and altering settings.

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)

Step 1: You have to access your router’s admin panel via your web browser. To do this, find your router’s IP address, usually a series of numbers located on the base of your router (for example: 192.168.1.1.), and enter them into your web browser.

You may be required to enter a username and password. Check your router’s base or manual for this information and enter accordingly.

Step 2: We’re looking for a setting called Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) which can generally be found under “media”. If you cannot find a “media” section, keep looking. The UPnP setting will be hiding somewhere. Once you’ve found the setting, enable UPnP.

Port Forwarding

Step 1: Here’s where things can get complicated. In order to change your NAT type to Open, we need to forward several ports to your PS console that mirror COD: Warzone’s Port Numbers:

TCP: 1935, 3478-3480

UDP: 3074, 3478-3479

Your port requirements may vary depending on your router. We recommend researching Port Forwarding before attempting this.

Step 4: After successfully forwarding the ports, reboot your PlayStation console and check your NAT Type, which should now read NAT Type 2 (Open).

How to Change Your NAT Type to Open on Xbox

Before trying anything, attempt these soft fixes:

  • Turn off Instant On & Energy Saver
  • Hard Restart your Xbox.

If these didn’t work, keep reading.

Changing your Xbox NAT Type is about as tricky as the PlayStation method. Fortunately, Xbox One automatically recognises Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) so there’s no need to mess about with this setting via your router.

Port Forwarding

We recommend researching Port Forwarding before attempting this fix.

Step 1: Firstly, head to Settings on your Xbox and open Network Settings. You’ll want to select Advanced Settings as seen below, and then finally, IP Settings.

Record your IP address and MAC address.

Step 2: You have to access your router’s admin panel via your web browser. To do this, find your router’s IP address, usually a series of numbers located on the base of your router (for example: 192.168.1.1.), and enter them into your web browser.

You may be required to enter a username and password. Check your router’s base or manual for this information and enter accordingly.

Step 3: Our goal here is to set the IP address for your Xbox as a Static IP, using the IP address and MAC address you grabbed from the Xbox settings. You may find the option to do this under Advanced Settings but every router’s admin panel is going to be different.

Step 4: Lastly, we’ll need to adjust your router’s Port Forwarding settings to mirror COD: Warzone’s Port Numbers:

TCP: 3074

UDP: 88, 500, 3074-3075, 3544, 4500

Step 5: After successfully forwarding the ports, reboot Your Xbox and check your NAT Type, which should now read NAT Type Open.

How to Adjust NAT Type on PC

There are several methods to adjusting your NAT type on PC.

UPnP

Step 2: We’re looking for a setting called Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) which can generally be found under “media”. If you cannot find a “media” section, keep looking. The UPnP setting will be hiding somewhere. Once you’ve found the setting, enable UPnP.

Step 3: Restart your computer and check your NAT settings in-game.

Windows Network

  • Click on the Start menu button. Navigate to your Settings.
  • Click Network and Internet. Then choose Wi-Fi.
• Then click Change Advanced sharing options.
