EMEA titans G2 Gozen face North America’s Shopify Rebellion and their Cinderella lower bracket run.Today’s match was a rollercoaster, and frankly, one of the most exciting matches in all of 2022. Pearl’s first map actually started out favoring G2 Gozen and specifically, this map was G2’s pick. However, the team began to falter and Shopify quickly closed on the goal score. It looked like it would be over in round 19, but great play from Mimi and Petra gave G2 three more rounds to fight. Flowerful relied on his tried and true chamber mechanics to pull his team to a convincing victory on the first map of the day.Once Shopify found their footing, they didn’t give up and Pearl picked up their opponent’s map, 13-9.There was another Battle of the Bind Chambers between Mary and Flowery. Although G2 was up at the half, and Mary has been lighting up the stage throughout the tournament, G2 made several mistakes on Bind that let Shopify capitalize. KP and Lowry held down the fort on the back end for Shopify, and the team got six consecutive rounds to take the point and unexpectedly reach tournament-point after just two games.

After their losses on the first two maps, G2 came into the ascendancy needing nothing less than a win. With their backs against the wall, the team’s mistakes at Pearl and Bind evaporated, and it looked like they were playing with a new focus against a Shopify that had looked unstoppable the past two days in Berlin.On the defensive side of the Shopify map G2 netted 10 rounds for themselves before getting a single one on the board. Mimi and Marie came out with great technical plays to keep their team dominating despite some good reads from Shopify, and Ascent quickly went the way of G2 with a score of 13-3.

The steamroll kept going into the icebox. Just yesterday, Shopify was the queen of the map behind Lori’s incredible Battle Sage display. But today G2 dominated with their onslaught. Flowerful once again gave his team some hope with incredible frags, including an ace in round 10, but the NA team was still left with a huge deficit at the half.

G2 continued to punish Shopify on defense, taking the Icebox to a 13–2 win. Marie was again the star for her team, but the veteran presence of Juliano and Mimi also held the team together.Coming to Breeze, Shopify needed its players to step up, especially since G2 hasn’t lost the map in over a year today. Sonder matched Juliano’s selection of Reyna on the map, an unexpected choice of the flashy player who usually plays Neon on Breeze.

Unfortunately for Shopify, things didn’t quite go according to plan. Sonder finished first in several rounds, and edged Juliano in the Reyna Mirror match-up. G2 played an best game ever and her perormance have aggressive defensive side both side, where Petra stepped up on Sova to make a huge dent in grand final match and also in their chances of taking the Shopify map in match and the Valorant championship title. The first half ended at 9-3 with good performance.

Even though Shopify got a much needed pistol round in the grand final second half and it looked like Benita might be able to turn things around for a split second with a 3k in match that makes huge difference, it was too late. G2 were in the zone and ready to take it all the way.With a 13-5 victory over Breeze, G2 completed the first VCT Finals reverse sweep in history.

Sonder’s choice of Reyna didn’t go to plan and the player fumbled early in the match. G2’s defense on Breeze was impeccable as it finished the first half with a strong scoreline of 9-3. While everyone believed in the 9-3 curse, G2 would soon shatter it to pieces as it wrapped up the series with a 13-5 victory, making it the first ever VCT Finals reverse sweep.

As far as next year goes, Riot’s global head of esports, Leo Faria, confirmed earlier on the broadcast that there will be an edition of the women’s and non-binary Valorant International Championships in 2023.
