Gaming on a PC means allocating a lot of space on the hard drive to the game. For instance, games including Fortnite, PUBG, and COD: Warzone have a similar user base, and saving all these games on the same PC can eat up the system’s hard drive in a jiffy.

Well, Fortnite has finally addressed this issue and rolled out a new update. While the game itself isn’t huge to download, Epic Games has still decided to provide a smaller file size. This news was well-received by gamers and they seemed happy with the developer.

How much space Fortnite needs on a PC?

Epic Games has managed to reduce the file size of Fortnite on PC by over 60GB. This has brought the size to between 25 and 30GB in total. The average size of Fortnite is now around 26GB on PC. The recently rolled-out patch that made this possible is actually larger on PC than any other platform that the game supports.

Epic Games took to its Fortnite Status Twitter page to announce the news. The company said the larger update will reduce the file size of Fortnite, improve loading performance, and also make future patches smaller in size.

The move comes after Activision and Infinity Ward enabled players to uninstall certain parts of Call of Duty: Warzone to make the file size smaller. Warzone faced a lot of flak previously for its huge update sizes.

Fortnite size Vs other games

With the file size of Fortnite going down from 90GB to under 30GB, players wonder how it fairs up against other games. Call of Duty: Warzone provides the option to be smaller, but the overall game is still massive in size. A recent update took the game over 250GB, so gamers would be happy to have options to uninstall some part of it.

Currently, PUBG on PC weighs around 30GB, which matches Fortnite due to its shrunken file size. Players of both battle royale games are happy about the change. Compared to other battle royale game – Apex Legends, Fortnite is now smaller. The former eats up around 32.5GB on PC. Epic Games undoubtedly made a great move by making Fortnite file size smaller.
