It has long been joked that Fortnite doesn’t play as well on the Nintendo Switch as it does on other platforms. Regardless, Epic Games ensures that the Switch’s limited hardware does not interfere with content updates. Fortnite releases a major update every almost two weeks, such as the most recent 17.40 update. These content updates alter various aspects of the game, and you will be unable to play the game unless you update, so you must understand how to update Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch.

Every platform has a different method for updating games, and the simplest method is to enable automatic updates. For those who do not have that feature enabled, here’s how to update Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch.

UPDATING FORTNITE ON NINTENDO SWITCH

To update Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, first turn on your console and go to the home screen. Select “All Software” to find the Fortnite application on your home screen or within your game directory. Once you’ve discovered Fortnite, press the “+” button to access the “options” menu. Then, from the menu, choose “Software Update.” Then, to download the most recent version of Fortnite, select Via the Internet.

Alternatively, applications that have an update available should prompt players to update when they try to launch the app. From the Home Screen, you can check the status of the update. You can estimate how long the download will take by checking the status.

SETTING UP AUTO UPDATES

To avoid missing out on another update, it’s always a good idea to turn on automatic updates so you don’t have to worry about how to update Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch in the future. To do so, go to the home screen and then to the bottom right, select System Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the categories in the settings menu and select “System.” Scroll all the way to the bottom, and one of the last options is “Auto-Update Software.” Check that this is turned on.

If a player is connected to the internet, their console is turned on or in rest mode, and they have enough storage, software updates will be downloaded and installed automatically.
