NVIDIA has revealed an extended list of games and fresh developer plug-ins for its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology, prior to the Game Developers Conference (GDC) next week. The latest iteration of DLSS 3, which harnesses the power of AI, is now supported in various major games and franchises. Moreover, the company is integrating DLSS into Unreal Engine, one of the most widely-used game engines globally. NVIDIA is also making the DLSS Frame Generation plug-in available to the public to simplify the adoption of this technology by developers.

According to Matt Wuebbling, NVIDIA’s Vice President of Global GeForce Marketing, the gaming industry has been transformed by neural graphics, specifically NVIDIA DLSS. Major gaming franchises like Diablo, Forza Horizon, and Bethesda’s Redfall are utilizing this technology to push the boundaries of image quality, while also maintaining smooth gameplay.

DLSS 3 Takes PC Gaming to New Heights

NVIDIA DLSS, launched in 2018, has transformed the PC gaming experience by combining AI and graphics to create an accelerated rendering pipeline that learns and improves continuously. DLSS eliminates the need for rendering every pixel natively, rendering only 1/8th of the pixels in a frame, and using AI and GeForce RTX™ Tensor Cores to reconstruct the remaining pixels. As a result, frame rates are significantly increased while still delivering high-quality images comparable to native resolution. This neural graphics revolution has made PC gaming smoother and more visually stunning than ever before.

DLSS 3 Features Prominently in the Biggest Franchises and Games: Diablo IV, Forza Horizon 5, and Redfall

NVIDIA DLSS, an AI-powered performance booster, has been implemented in more than 270 games and applications to date. The latest version, DLSS 3, has already been integrated into 28 released games, and has been adopted 7 times faster than DLSS 2 within the first 6 months of their respective launches. The highly anticipated racing game, Forza Horizon 5, which has been widely acclaimed as the best open-world racing game ever made by multiple media outlets, is among the latest games to join the DLSS roster. With support for ray tracing already in place, the game is set to update to DLSS 3 on March 28, further enhancing its visuals and performance.

Redfall, the upcoming open-world co-op first-person shooter game from Arkane Austin, known for their critically acclaimed titles Prey and Dishonored, is set to release on May 2. The game will feature NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 technology, promising improved graphics and smoother gameplay for players. Meanwhile, Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo IV, the latest installment in the beloved Diablo franchise, is slated for release on June 6, also with DLSS 3 support. The game’s technical director, Michael Bukowski, expressed his excitement for the high frame rates and improved performance on NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 series hardware. Fans of both franchises can expect an enhanced gaming experience thanks to DLSS 3 technology.

Developers can now access DLSS Frame Generation at GDC

During GDC, NVIDIA plans to release DLSS Frame Generation plug-ins to the public. The technology boosts frame rates and can be integrated into games and applications. NVIDIA Streamline, an open-source framework, simplifies the integration of super-resolution technologies in 3D games and applications and will provide access to DLSS Frame Generation. This move will make it possible for even more developers to utilize the technology.

DLSS technology is always improving through ongoing training on NVIDIA’s AI supercomputer. The public release will incorporate the latest DLSS enhancements made earlier this year, including:

• By making better use of game engine data, DLSS Frame Generation enhances image quality and user interface stability, even during rapid movement.

• The Ultra Performance mode receives a boost in quality and stability with DLSS Super Resolution, resulting in better overall image quality and finer detail preservation.

• In high-contrast situations, DLAA enhances edge smoothness, reduces ghosting, and improves overall image quality.

DLSS 3 integration into Unreal Engine games made simpler with Unreal Engine 5.2

Unreal Engine, a widely used real-time 3D creation tool, is integrating NVIDIA DLSS 3, according to a joint announcement by NVIDIA and Epic. This partnership will allow game developers and creators to accelerate the performance of their games or applications, as the DLSS 3 plug-in is set to debut in UE 5.2. The integration of NVIDIA’s advanced frame generation technology into the popular game engine is expected to offer developers improved quality and performance for their creations.

Nick Penwarden, Vice President of Engineering at Epic Games, expressed excitement over the partnership, stating that NVIDIA DLSS 3’s impressive technology would be a great addition for developers looking to enhance their game’s performance and quality.
